CATE Conference 2023 Excursions
The CATE 2023 Conference Committee have planned eight fun and diverse excursions taking place from 1.15pm to 4pm on Friday 24th November.

For more information about each activity, please click the names of each excursion to be taken to their website. Some of these excursions have a cost included, noted in brackets, which will be charged for at the time of selection.
Cooking Collective - Street Fusion [Cost: $20 per person]
Come along to Te Pukenga Northtec Hospitality Campus and take part in a Cooking class.
Learn how to make Argentinian beef empanadas and spinach pakora with a tamarind chutney. Perfect for a pre dinner snack!!

Hundertwasser Art Gallery [Cost: $20 per person]
Join us for a tour around New Zealand's most unique Art Gallery, and take part in a specialised Art Mural workshop where we will create a bespoke piece of Art Work in true Hundertwasser style that will be donated to all future CATE Conferences.
Limited to 100 spaces. Walking bus departs Forum North at 1.15pm and leaves Hundertwasser at 3.30pm
McLeod's Brewery [Cost: $20 per person]
Experience Northland’s multi award winning brewery in the rural and beach town of Waipu. Mcleod’s brewery and Pizza Barn is a Northland icon and you will get to experience the very best of what they have to offer.
You will have the chance to taste 5 different beers from their extensive range of craft beers. A snack of pizza bread and fries will also be provided.

Mind, Body & Salt [No charge]
Walk from Forum North to Northland’s only Salt Therapy Centre, and experience the health benefits of breathing in salt infused air.
Relax in a comfortable reclining chair, with gentle music and low lighting to aid relaxation and creation of a peaceful environment.
Group 1 will walk to the Evolution School of Massage and Beauty therapy for 1.15pm - 2.15pm 5x 1 hour relaxation massage and 5x 1 hour Pedicure OR Manicure. Then the 2 groups will swap over.

NIWA's Northland Aquaculture Centre [No charge]
Come and take a behind the scenes tour of NIWA’s Northland Aquaculture Centre. See how the dedicated team here are supporting New Zealand’s growing aquaculture sector, how they manage marine operations that optimise sustainable aquaculture production; and equally importantly how they meet high environmental and quality standards as kaitiaki of the Bream Bay coastline. The team are keen to show you around this facility that is not normally accessible to the public and chat about the many career and employment opportunities in this sector and NIWA as a whole.
After our visit to the Northland Aquaculture Centre we will have “afternoon tea” at the Marina Restaurant, on the waterfront with picturesque views of the boats and Bream Bay beyond.

Papaka Road - Gin Tour and Tasting [Cost: $20 per person]
Papaka Road Gin Distillery are passionate about producing the highest quality gin using the best locally sourced and imported ingredients. Join us to enjoy a fun and relaxing afternoon touring their amazing premises and tasting the delicious gins they have to offer.

Sabio Roastery - Coffee tasting tour [Cost: $20 per person]
Join us for a captivating 90-minute Coffee Education experience that promises to awaken your taste buds. Delve into the art of coffee tasting as we guide you through the fundamentals of discerning the intricate flavors and aromas hidden within the coffee beans. You'll get the chance to participate in 1-2 Coffee Triangulations, where you can put your newfound knowledge to the test. Expect a light-hearted competition that's as engaging as it is delicious. Get ready to embark on a journey of coffee exploration like no other!

Quarry Gardens [No charge]
Whangārei Quarry Gardens is a subtropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former stone quarry. The 5-star Garden features a fascinating variety of plants, from huge established trees and lush subtropicals to the largest collection of scented Camellias in the Southern Hemisphere. This unique conservation project is an incredible example of the power of community spirit.
